A Clinical study on the incompetent internal os of the cervix

Abstract
This study was undertaken for the clinical analysis and evaluation of 61 patients with incompetent internal os of the cervix, who were admitted and trreated at the Chon-ju Presbyterian Medical Center from January 1988 to December 1992.
The results of this study were as follows:
1. The incidence of this IIOC was 0.3% and mean age of IIOC patients was 29.9 years old.
2. The average number of gravida before operation was 3.5 and the success rate of operation was low at high gravida.
3. The significant contributary factor was previous history of the traumatic induced abortion (59.0%).
4. The postoperative fetal salvage rate was 90.5%(43 cases) and from 15th weeks to 16th weeks of gestation, the success rate of operation was 76.9% and these period revealed the highest success rate of operation.
5. When cervical dilatation was small, the success rate of operation was high.
6. The causes of failed operation (18 casees) were 8 cases of preterm labor and 6 cases of PROM, 2 cases of infection, 1 cases of IUFD, 1 case of bleeding.
7. The delivery methods after operation were via vaginval route in 53 cases (86.9%) and abdominal route in 8 cases(13.1%).
